Nikon as expected this morning launched the D3s. Its update to the mainstay pro DSLR adds 720p, 24FPS video like the D300s before it but is most notable for its dramatically improved light sensitivity. The 12-megapixel camera is one of the first to shoot up to ISO 12,800 at normal settings but can be manually set to shoot at ISO 102,400 — four times the original D3 as well as other top tier DSLRs….

Flip Video today countered the threat of the iPod nano as a camcorder by launching a redesigned Flip Mino HD. Small town Apple Store opening scheduled for Saturday
The new Apple Store in Manhasset, New York is scheduled to have its grand opening this Saturday October 17th at 10 o’clock. Although the town only has a population of 8,300, the location seems ideal considering the area has an average household income of $125,240 per year –among the 10 highest incomes for any existing Apple Store Location, according to ifoAppleStore. The opening should also help to alleviate the heavy traffic in the three Apple Stores located on Long Island, the report said….

Nintendo DS sequel may use NVIDIA GPU, rival iPod
Nintendo’s next-generation DS may be powerful enough to rival the current iPod touch in terms of power if a purported source is accurate. Contacts at BSN say NVIDIA has won a contract with Nintendo to use a variant of the Tegra chipset in a future handheld. Which model would be used is unknown, but it’s still expected to be a single-chip design and may be a second-generation Tegra rather than the existing component….

Intel sees record sales spike thanks to notebooks
Intel today says it recorded one of the best fiscal quarters in its history and owed it almost exclusively to notebooks. The chip maker generated $9.4 billion in revenue during the summer, an eight percent drop from a year earlier but a sharp 17.5 percent jump from this spring. The surge is the best the company has seen in the past 30 years, Intel says….

Youth survey claims Jobs as top celebrity entrepreneur
Apple executive Steve Jobs is the most admired celebrity entrepreneur in the US, at least amongst tweens and teenagers, claims the youth organization Junior Achievement. The group recently surveyed 1,000 people aged 12 to 17, asking them to pick a name from a predefined list. Jobs was chosen by 35 percent of respondents, beating out talk show host Oprah Winfrey at 25 percent, and skateboarder Tony Hawk at 16 percent. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg attained 10 percent….

Apple to unlock FM radio in iPhone, iPod touch?
A rumor today claims that Apple is developing software to expose FM radio tuning for certain models of the iPhone and iPod touch. The software would likely have the same feature set as the current iPod nano and could tag songs to buy them in iTunes; the Internet connection would appropriately give the option of buying the song immediately instead of waiting for the next computer sync.
